Meet Michelle and Haydn.
A gorgeous young couple that I met at the Love on the Lawn Festival at Hope Estate back in 2016.
After getting to know them a bit on this shoot together, it's so great to hear that they have both been such a support for each other from day one.
Meeting at school, finishing their HSC and buying their first house, this really is a 'high-school sweetheart' relationship.
Their wedding is to be held this weekend, with some great vendors thrown in the mix - and some of which I've yet to work alongside with. With all that said, I'm looking forward to catching up with two really nice souls on the morning of their wedding!
Bring on the good times, date nights and loving memories!
Tell me a little about yourselves guys, and how did you both meet?
Well, Haydn is 2 years older than me - He's 23 and I'm 21. We both met through school and have been dating since I was 15.
What have been the most exciting parts of planning your wedding?
Haydn hasn't had much to do with the wedding planning but he's had a say on some things. I wanted a cake topper made out of clay to look like us on our wedding day and he kinda didn't, haha so we compromised and got one! The most exciting part for me has been has been going through all the pamphlets and cards from vendors from expos selecting vendors and seeing things just stat to come together.
How do you think marriage will change this relationship?
We don't think marriage will change us much at all. We definitely are best friends and we have relied on each other since a young age. We do a lot together and we have gone through all the milestones together too - our 18th and 21st birthdays, getting our car licences, completing the hsc, living together and even buying our 1st house together. If anything the only thing changing will be my last name!
What do you most look forward to about your wedding?
"The I do's". And I look forward to seeing Haydn on the day and how he will react during all the moments we encounter.
What are the most important things that will create a long lasting and loving marriage?
Always having time for each other. You can't let your busy lives out way the importance to connect with each other.
Who are the vendors that you are working with for your wedding day?
Well you - Gez Xavier Mansfield Photography! Fennel and Co are our Catering, Edie McCarthy is our celebrant, Once Upon a Picture is the photo booth and DJ hired, Switch Multimedia is doing videography and Lovedale Wedding Chapel is where our ceremony is being held with their reception centre.
Karli from forever Floral wedding designs is our florist, and we also hired Princess Classic Cars for our transport to Lovedale in the Hunter Valley.
Who have been your favourite wedding dress designers?
I have chosen a Kenneth Winston Gown. I love their designs. I did also really love some of the rosa Clara Gown's too. Getting married? Check them out.
What special ways do you express your love to each other?
Just little things we do I guess. Being supportive of each other. We always put kisses at the end of our texts. Always.
What are your favourite ways to spend time together?
Going out on a regular date night (dinner and movies is great). I love laughing with him, we always find ways to make each other laugh. It's part of us.
What’s your relationship advice for couples planning their big day?
Haha, well Haydn says 'let the fiance have what she wants." I say the professional, modern expo's are really fantastic - they're so informative and a fun day out.
What’s the best relationship advice anyone has given you?
Our advice would be from my Grandma actually, which would be to make sure we keep going on dates. That and 'happy Wife, happy Life' hehe!

This gorgeous elopement story can be told in a set of images. Ali - a air hostess for Virgin Australia and Ben...a pilot for the Australian Royal Flying Doctor Service. Say no more. One of the most vibrant couples I've be lucky enough to work with this year, and one can only imagine the time they spend apart as a couple.
When only 10 guests are present at your wedding...it's something special. Brave, but wow... how amazing. The exact feeling I got on this day.
Getting ready together was just an amazing sight to see, and with walking each other down the isle being the 1st sight each guest saw, was something visually amazing in it's own right.
Weekday elopements are becoming more and more popular, and with photographers and couples alike leaning more towards them, it's no wonder the rate is rising. Simply beautiful.
Hope you love!

Tucked away at the back of the Hunter Valley, no phone reception and minimal traffic. Peferct. And most would say it was the perfect place to hold a forest inspired wedding!
Jade+Jacob fell in love with Stonehurst Cedar Creek in stunning Wollombi - and it's easy to see why. Surrounded by family, friends and the odd rain cloud, the wedding celebration fell into night under the love and lust of festoon lighting and vintage floor rugs!
Getting married in the Hunter? Looking to add your own touch to an awesome venue/location? This may be the perfect answer!
Enjoy - Gez

It's becoming more and more popular that couples are relying on their wedding photographer to come up with ideas when investing into their engagement shoots prior to their weddings. Not only an ice breaker between photographer v couple, but a barrier smasher for couples in front of each other - in front of the camera. With an added bonus of walking away with stunning shots that will last a lifetime!
Creating an afternoon of longneck craft beers and laugher wasn't a problem with these two at all. Being true to who they are, Katherine and Damien envisioned a stress-free engagement session with neutral touches and an industrial feel - something they allowed me to take charge with location wise - successfully searching for juxtaposition to their upcoming beach wedding on the sandy shores of Avoca.
Steel, rust and graffitied wallscapes constructed the background of the shoot, knowing that area's like these have amazing pockets of light and texture at the right time of day - the key having guess what the times and lights are going to be doing at any given point. With rain also having been present in Newcastle over this weekend, painted colours were popping making these amazing humans jump out of the scenery.
I believe shooting engagement sessions in areas different to your wedding is the perfect thing to do. Yeah, there's a little bit of stress that comes with it - because you're breaking the mould of the couple's thought process - believing that they should shoot at their wedding location, but you have to remember (especially a few months out...) that things on the day are going to be totally different from all the planning you do do!
It's not where your photographer has shot before that makes them great...it's kinda where they haven't. Ever changing scenery and light makes this job one of beauty.
At the end of the day, I wanted Katherine and Damien to enjoy the time up here in Newcastle. Not only meeting me but taking the relaxed road when being photographed.
Once again, a stunning, happy and excited couple....Enjoy!
