With the seasons changing rapidly in N.S.W around this time of year, I thought that Laurel-Lee and Rob's engagement shoot would be a great chance to not only show them what Newcastle has to visually offer, but flipping the landscape looks from their soon to be wedding day at Ironbark Hill in the Hunter Valley.
We dealt with a lot of shade, but this was all part of it - finding pockets of light as the clouds moved created some nice warm shots, and then recomposing and exposing for the shade gave this shoot some beautiful cool flowing shots.
We hadn't seen much rain on these shorelines lately (not like what we've experienced this month any way...) so the dry sandstone and hues of the ocean really played a pulling role.
Looking forward to the wedding, this shoot was all about getting used to being with each other in front of the lens, learning to relax and have some fun, and to find some awesome shots that these two will cherish for years to come.
I think this was achieved.
How did you met and what was it like on your 1st date out?
We met online via RSVP. Our first date was a blind date at the local pub, The Rocksia. We hit it off straight away and ended up chatting for a few hours over a few drinks & a meal.
Whats the reason you both fell in love with each other?
I fell in love with Rob because he is such a genuine and caring person, very funny, affectionate & from very early on, I felt completely comfortable and could be myself around him.
What have been the most exciting parts of planning your time as a couple?
Travelling! We’ve had lots of fun exploring new places on road trips, hiking, in tour groups, etc, both within Australia and overseas. Getting engaged at sunset, at a beautiful restaurant in Santorini in the Greek islands, would have to be the highlight!
What have been the most exciting parts of planning your wedding?
Probably looking at venues and spending a weekend in the Hunter Valley to do it. We’ve had some fun designing wedding stationery too, and the hair/ makeup trial & engagement shoot were pretty fun as well!
How do you think marriage will change your relationship?
Not much at all. Just an affirmation of our love & long term commitment to each other.
What do you most look forward to about your wedding?
Celebrating with our family and friends at the reception.
What are the most important things that will create a long lasting and loving marriage?
Honesty, trust, laughter & supporting each other through good times & bad.
Funniest story or memories you have about each other?
When we visited the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican last year, you weren’t allowed to take photographs or eat in the chapel. You also had to be quiet – which was ironic because a guy kept coming over the loudspeaker saying “Silenzio – SHHHHH”. As we were preparing to leave, Rob asked LL for a drink of water from our backpack. LL said “no, you can’t drink in here. You’ll have to wait until we go outside.” When we went outside, we met up with our friends who boasted how they’d taken photos inside the chapel, while munching on a piece of pizza! Rob said “meanwhile, I was dehydrating because I wasn’t even allowed a drink of water”. It is one of our funniest travel stories and we often say to one another “Silenzio” and just crack up laughing.
