Johanna + Matt's Engagement Shoot / Maitland's hidden magic!

A stunning fig overlooking a lake and some perfect afternoon weather plucked from a spring day proved to be the perfect location for these two.

Johanna+Matt. For those who know them, it's business as usual - smiles galore!  And for those who don't... well, take it from me - put simply, They're a fun ball of love! and it won't take long for you to see. This was a great shoot for me too. iT PUSHED ME OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE in terms of visual AS IT WAS AN AREA i'D HAVE NEVER PHOTOGRAPHED.

unknown locations can look just as stunning as the popular, over-photographed locations throughout N.s.w, and this session was one of them.

Enough talk from me. Enjoy.

How did you both meet?

At work! We thought that no one in the office knew… conveniently both going to Hawaii at the same time may have tipped a few people off.

What do you love about each other?

Joh – Matty’s amazing cooking skills… oh and his fun personality ☺ / Matt – Joh’s gorgeous smile and awesome memory

Do you have any funny relationship stories?

Many! But the funniest is probably Joh getting food poisoning / stomach bug from one of our first dates!

How did you become engaged?

We had a wedding to attend in Queensland so we decided to take some extra time off work and go to Noosa for a week.

Matt had a grand master plan and managed to hide the ring on the plane and in our bags for days. Matt surprised me with a picnic in the hinterlands after going to the Eumundi markets to get some cheese & fruit. It was a very rainy day and he had to change the location of the picnic but it was still an amazing day and I had no idea what he was doing when he surprised me with a ring!

Why did you choose this style of shoot for your engagement photos?

We are getting married in the CBD of Newcastle so near lots of beautiful beaches, funky streets and parks so we wanted a different feel for our engagement photos.

Where did the engagement shoot take place?

Walka Water Works at Maitland. Gez suggested it after we were both struggling of somewhere to go. Neither of us had been there before but the grounds and buildings are incredible.

When is your wedding set for?

The 1th of September! Very soon!!

What have been the most exciting parts of planning your wedding?

The honeymoon is defiantly up there but the whole experience has been fun from driving around the vineyards for a day looking for a venue (and then ending up picking one about 2kms from our house!), cake testing, menu & wine tasting and just in general the excitement that we are getting married with all our family and friends celebrating with us.

How do you think marriage will change your relationship?

Hopefully not too much at all! We have been together for 5 years so hopefully know almost everything about each other now!

What do you most look forward to about your wedding?

The reception – getting to have a dance and drink with our nearest and dearest

What's both of your favourite colours?

Joh – Purple – Matt - Blue

What are the most important things that will create a long lasting and loving marriage?

Laughter.

Who have been your favourite wedding dress designers?

Jane Hill has always been a favourite and I have been lucky enough to get to wear a Jane Hill dress

What special ways do you express your love to each other?

Food – ha ha, whether it be cooking our favourite meal or buying our favourite treats. Of course we also tell each other that we love each other everyday

What made you choose this location for your engagement shoot?

We are getting married in the CBD of Newcastle so near lots of beautiful beaches, funky streets and parks so we wanted a different feel for our engagement photos.

What are your favourite ways to spend time together?

Going for walks, beach trips and sitting on the couch watching Netflix

What’s your relationship advice for couples planning their big day?

Set a budget and stick to it! Costs can just seem to creep and creep so having a set budget will help you determine if you really need the Valentino heels… which I most defiantly do!

What's been the hardest thing about planning your wedding day?

Not too much so far! We have been pretty lucky and have had lots of advice, my sister got married 18 months ago and my brother 6 months ago so I have had lots of people to help us out with tips.

What’s the best relationship advice anyone has given you?

Happy wife, happy life ;)

If you both had magical powers to turn into an animal, what would you be, and why?

Joh – a zebra – I love black and white stripes!

Matt – A dog because they get lots of food and lay in the sun
